Cash vs. Non-cash incentives
Often my clients ask me what I think the incentives business through direct donation of money compared to other non-monetary incentive systems.
And each time, my answer is the same: the various principles of social and cognitive psychology demonstrate that Winners receive non-monetary incentive schemes more of the same value in cash.
Dr. Jeffrey Scott University Waterloo has written an interesting study in that it is justified by four factors: evaluability, separability, justifiability, and social reinforcement.
EVALUABILITY: as to give a monetary value on a non-monetary incentives is not easy, the reactions "instinctive" and "emotional" to award a substitute for its real value. Furthermore, evaluations tend to increase the emotional value beyond the real one!
separability: a cash prize pool to be cognitively salary. Thus, a cash prize and hardly notice it is easily forgotten. On the other side, a non-monetary incentive is unique and is instinctively separate from salary.

The truth is that it was a very challenging period. But also very happy.

And, to make us even more proud, being the only European company among the eight finalists in our category!
The Spotlight Awards, born in 1997, are in fact unop of the oldest and most prestigious awards in the Event Industry, highlighting the best professionals, companies and results. Each year the competition is stronger and the expectation of winning a bit 'more intense.

Review: "Beyond the team building - how to cultivate intelligence and diversity", by Chiara Abbate and Simone Bandini Buti (Conventions publisher, 2009)
Looking for a good book that can enlighten you on the state of the art of team-building, here is the answer to your prayers! "In addition to team building - how to cultivate intelligence and diversity" is the right volume for you!
Dall'outdoor-training with role-playing, art activities by those in social background, the authors dissect (obviously not in a comprehensive way, but very functional) more or less everything you need to know in the field, and depict it all in a handy table at the end of the book.
But the most interesting thing for a professional is probably the concept of alpha activity (Playful Learning Activities aggregates). As the authors have rightly written, "is not correct to describe team building any organized activity in a demonstration. " The fact ALFA include not only activities that are aimed at forming a team, but maybe focus their attention on other skills such as problem-solving and time-management. As someone
surely remember, I talked about the same topic in more than one occasion, as in the seminar I gave in April for the Faculty of Economics, University of Catania (you can read my post about the seminar HERE), but I think that no one has expressed this in a clearer or better than the authors of the book, and I now will use the symbol ALFA (obviously giving him credit).
Chiara Abbate Simone Bandini Buti and professionals are excellent, as is shown through these pages.
Highly recommended!

As the authors rightly wrote: “it’s not correct to call team-building any social activity that is carried out during an event”. A.L.F.A. includes even the activities that do not have team building as their main goal, but perhaps other skills like problem solving, time-management, etc.
As someone may remember, I have talked about the same argument in more than one occasion, as in the seminar I ran in April for the Faculty of Economics of Catania University (you can read my post about the seminar HERE ), but I do think That no one Have Expressed examination this concept in a clearer and better way, and I will use the concept ALFA myself (giving credits to the authors, of course).

Un paio di giorni fa, ero in spiaggia con un amico gustandomi un gelato, quando mi arriva una telefonata da un collega event-planner che mi chiedeva aiuto. Cercai to understand what he needed and he explained that he was organizing an exhibition (open to the public), and that he had simply forgotten to program any kind of entertainment. To put it bluntly, he even forgot to hire a proper sound system!
When asked when the show would begin, he added: "It 's already started this morning, and I'm getting lots of complaints from all Exhibitors! Someone has even threatened to leave if I were not able to resolve the problem soon! "
I leave you to draw your own conclusions on this particular event, but I'm always shocked by how many times know that the entertainment value is underestimated well as by working in the sector!
Being a powerful means of communication, each event must be consistent in each of its parts. So, the entertainment, if appropriate, should be a part of the design right from the very first bars.
In particular, corporate events are very important to liaise with employees and customers. And many people fear that these events compel them for hours in rooms devoted to meetings, making him waste your time with people not interested in anything. Create motivational events and inspiration is not easy, boring and an event is certainly the last thing you want for your guests.
I know, choose entertainment right for your event is not an easy task.

I'm proud!
Yes, I'm really proud.
E 'in August, and in Sicily, is really hot summer. But, unexpectedly, is also a very busy month in our office: we have 3 events planned for the next few days, and we are getting a deluge of requests for the coming months.
In these stressful conditions, and counting only the last few days, I have seen players try out their new, heavy baroque costumes (white wigs included) for our next Festival Baroque dancers travel over 50 km a day to rehearse, my colleagues remain in office well beyond office hours, set designers work hard under a blazing sun, and all our part-time staff support us in every way possible.
And all without ever losing their smiles. Never.
Now, I am finally sdraiato nel mio letto, stanco ma soddisfatto, improvvisamente mi rendo conto che il mio è proprio il tipo di team che ho sempre sognato.
Grazie, ragazzi. Sono orgoglioso di essere una parte della vostra squadra.

Under this stressing conditions, in the last few days, I’ve seen musicians trying on their new, heavy baroque costumes (white wigs included!) for our next baroque party, dancers traveling over 50 km per day to have their rehearsals, my colleagues staying in the office well out of their business hours, set-designers working hard under a burning sun, and all of our part-time staff supporting us in a lot of different ways.
And all of them never loosed their smiles. Never.
Now, finally lying down on my bed, tired but satisfied, I abruptly realized that mine is the kind of team I always dreamed of.
Thanks, guys. I’m proud to be a part of your team.

Travel + Leisure, a popular magazine in the tourism sector, has just published list of the 10 best resorts in Europe .
And I was happily surprised to find 5 Italian hotels on the list, and among them, two very charming hotel in Sicily, both Taormina: Hotel Villa S. Andrea (third place) and the Grand Hotel Timaeus (the fifth).
My warmest congratulations to both now are, if possible, a little 'more proud to be Sicilian!

Time Ivana, chief executive of Fininvest Congress, is one of the most known and capable PCO in Italy, with over 20 years of experience in organizing events.
I recently had the pleasure to take a close look at his way of working, and I must say that I was really struck by the extraordinary attention to detail and careful overall planning.
So I could not be intrigued by his book "Handbook for Congress assistants!
The book was written especially for hostess (and Stewart) as a practical and valuable guide for their work. From "uniform" to "the contract" by "briefing" on a practical "glossary of terms most commonly used convention," ogni aspetto di questo lavoro è stato brillantemente sviscerato in appena 65 pagine.
Un grande libro per hostess e Stewart. Ma anche un pratico promemoria per ogni meeting professional che si rispetti.

So, I couldn’t be more curious about her book “Manuale per Assistenti congressuali”!
The book was written with hostesses (and stewarts) in mind, as a practical and precious guide for their work. From “the uniform” to “the contract”, and from “the briefing” to a practical “meetings and events glossary”, every and each aspect of this job is fully covered in just 65 pages.
A great book for hostesses and stewarts. And a practical reminder for any meeting professionals.

The book was written especially for hostess (and Stewart) as a practical and valuable guide for their work. From "uniform" to "the contract" by "briefing" on a practical "glossary of terms most commonly used convention," ogni aspetto di questo lavoro è stato brillantemente sviscerato in appena 65 pagine.
Un grande libro per hostess e Stewart. Ma anche un pratico promemoria per ogni meeting professional che si rispetti.
